Great mini-figs, rest of set is so-so
Be sure you buy this kit on sale. When finally put together, you get a very intricate, detailed model, but it's not very big - doesn't feel very substantial for the price.
That said, if you are building up your orc army, this is a set you will want...

Save The Company of Dwarves! The goblins have captured the heroic Dwarves and imprisoned them deep inside their filthy caves. Help GandalfTM the Grey sneak past The Goblin King and set them free! Discover the cave's functions, secrets and hidden treasures as you fight your way to freedom by firing the catapult, collapsing the rope bridge, lifting the bucket crane, tipping the ladder and finding the map. Defeat The Goblin King in an epic underworld battle! And beware The Goblin King throne's trapping function! Includes Gandalf the Grey and 7 minifigures exclusive to this building set: Dori the Dwarf, Nori the Dwarf, Ori the Dwarf, Goblin Scribe, 2 Goblin Soldiers and The Goblin King.

  • Includes 7 minifigures: Dori the Dwarf, Nori the Dwarf, Ori the Dwarf, Gandalf the Grey, The Goblin King, Goblin Scribe and 2 Goblin Soldiers, all with assorted weapons
  • Accessories include map, skulls, bone elements, torches with flame elements, golden crystals and The Goblin King's crown and bone scepter
  • Bridge measures over 6" (17cm) high, 9" (24cm) wide and 4" (11cm) deep
  • Throne measures over 6" (17cm) high, 5" (14cm) wide and 5" (15cm) deep
  • The Goblin King stands over 2" (7cm) tall

Not a $99 set
This set was a disappointment. There were a number of times when putting this together when I scratched my head and asked, "why?"
Having put it together, I'd say a reasonable price for this set (compared to other LEGO brand sets) is about $75.
This set includes 841 pieces spread out between 5 bags. The minifigures are also separated between the bags which speeds building time.
What you can't tell from the box is that this set is actually 4 separate parts - the throne, the bridge, and two small platforms.

BUILDING TIPS:
Sections of this set are very weak until all the bricks are placed on it. I'd recommend using a hard, flat, level surface. Also, this set makes use of black, dark brown, and brown bricks. A desk lamp and a good pair of eyes are a must, it can be very hard to distinguish between the three in the instructions.
The three instruction books come packaged with a sheet of cardboard, no paperweights are required.

Awesome Collector's Set
I gave it this rating because it has a lot of really small pieces that are easy to overlook when reading the instructions. It takes a long time to put it together. Other than that, it's great!
It's realistic. The characters are ugly enough to be real. It comes with a lot of extra weapons. It's just an awesome set!
I would recommend this to everyone who likes Legos and the Hobbit. I would NOT recommend this for children under 8 due to the myriad of tiny pieces.
My 14-year-old was given this set for his birthday. This review was dictated by him. He was very skilled at Lego sets above his age range.
